Music Monday - Beyonce

Today's Music Monday post is from an artist from Houston, Texas, in honor of the International Quilt Market being held there this weekend. Beyonce has become a force to be reckoned with in popular music today. When this woman releases an album her music is inescapable for months at a time, which can be a little tiring, but she still may be one of the hardest working women in show business. Be warned, this song my stick in your head for the rest of the day!

Getting very excited about heading to market this weekend, who else is going to be there? I would like to maybe meet up with some of the wonderful people that I have met here and through Twitter. If you aren't going to be there I will be tweeting from the floor at the show. For anyone who has been, do you have any pointers or tips for a first timer?

Music Monday

Today's Music Monday comes from the winner of the first season of American Idol. Kelly Clarkson blew us away with her huge voice on that show and is, with Carrie Underwood, the most successful of the winners from the show. This song always makes me think of a good friend who moved away recently, so I'm going to share it with you here today.

Winter Garden

I was reading Sister Choice Quilts blog a few weeks ago it seems, but really it was back in July. She did a book review and I'm always on the look out for a good book to read. I looked to see if my local library had any of the books she had listed on audio. I was able to find Winter Garden (what a great name for a quilt pattern) on audio. I hate to read, but will listen to a book to and from work each day. I have had the opportunity to listen to just a few books this way.

Winter Garden is a book that starts off slow just like everyone said. I really did not get it at first, how could a mother be so down right cold and mean to her own daughters? She kept everything bottled up inside. It's not 'til the mother tells her fairy tale, that we learn the real truth behind her heartless mask. This story made me cry and love the mother even more. I now see why she acted the way she did for all those years. It took a woman with a backbone to do everything she did. I would recommend that you read this book if for nothing else, the history lesson that is told within.

(Photo was taken at night)

Just wanted to let you know that I can finish something. I had a charm pack I wanted to use. I love Basic Gray. Don't you?

Music Monday

Today's Music Monday post comes to us from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. I was watching Ovation this weekend and there was a documentary on the making of The Phantom of The Opera, and it was absolutely fascinating. I really enjoy this show and the music from it, so I thought I would share it here with you today. This show is now the longest running musical in Broadway history after surpassing another Lloyd Webber show, Cats. Here are Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford and their performance from the 1988 Tony Awards.

Quilt Room - Ironing Board

I've been working on reorganizing my quilt room and one of the things I have done is taken out my big 18" wide ironing board. It was taking up space that I could use for something else. I went to the hardware store and bought:

18" x 48" board
Batting 22" x 52"
1/2" ironing board cover fabric. (I got this from Jo-Ann's)
Staple gun

(Sorry for the bad lighting)

Here are my supplies all ready to go.

Cut my batting to fit the board with a little extra for wrap around. Using the staple gun to make sure it's taut and no wrinkles.

Batting wrapped and ready for the next step.

Ironing board fabric being wrapped in the same manner as the batting. Just remember to tuck your corners and make them look nice.

Ironing board all done and placed on top of storage shelves.

I made this for about $15.00. Very quick and simple to do.

By making this ironing board I now have usable space under it. As before there was no real usable space. If I need to I can still pull out the other ironing board, but there is no real need to because this one is big enough to handle yardages of fabric.

I'll be sharing with you other things I have done in my quilting room to give me more space.

If you make one of these I would love hear about it.

Music Monday - Kylie Minogue

Today's Music Monday post comes from an artist who has been around for many years and doesn't enjoy the success in America that she does in other parts of the world. Kylie Minogue had a huge hit with her remake of Locomotion in 1987. She also had a few hits since then here in the states such as Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Slow. Her new album Aphrodite is one of my favorite albums of this summer. The second single I'm going to share with you today....
