Music Monday

Todays Music Monday post comes to us from the band Muse who hail from Great Britain. An amazing band with some great songs. We were going to go see them last summer, but the KC show was cancelled. I sure hope they reschedule at some point so that we can see what I have been told is the most amazing rock show on the road today.

Games of My Childhood

Not sure why, but I woke up this morning thinking of this.
It's the Speak & Spell from Texas Instruments.
Yes, it's from the late seventies
I remember sitting on the kitchen floor trying to spell every single word.

Then I remember this too.
Simon, by Milton Bradley
I used to be really good at it.
I bet I'm not anymore. I've lost a few brain cells since then!

Merlin, by Parker Brothers.
An electronic Tic Tac Toe game.
Shortly after Christmas of my third grade year, I took this to show and tell.
I was so proud of it.
I thought I was so cool having one of these.

I don't think kids of today would even spend more than five seconds with any of these games, but I would spend hours, weeks, even months playing with them.

Music Monday

Today's song is from the Material Girl herself, it's a great pick me up song to help drive away those winter blah's. Here is Ray of Light from Madonna...

Inspiration

I've been playing out on the web once again when I should be doing other things, like cooking , laundry, buying grocery's and cleaning. Wait, who am I trying to kid? I don't do those kinds of things. :-) Anyway, It's a great place to get inspiration. Here are just a few that I saw and wanted to share with you my readers. I hope they inspire you as much as they have me.

It just a small little quilt 34" x 36" and is using Kona Solids and is designed by Cherri House. This will be a very quick quilt along and can be done by anyone. I have lots of solids and this would be a great way to use some of them. I can't decide if I like the gray or orange more.

Won't you join the Quilt-Along? Follow her Flicker group too! A supply list can be found here. Leave me a comment if your going to join.

I wanted to show you this awesome quilt made by my friend Katy of I'm A Ginger Monkey. Read more about this awesome quilt here. Don't you just love her color choices? I wish I had half of those colors in my stash. Maybe she is willing to share with me since I'm not buying fabric. :-)

I think this sneak peek of John's {aka Quilt Dad} Central Park quilt is just awesome. Great mixture of prints and solids. I'm in love with the orange, gray, yellow and turquoise color combo.

To see this quilt and pattern in all its glory check out Issue 4 Fat Quarterly magazine coming this coming Tuesday, January 25th. Learn more on their website at http://www.fatquarterly.com.

Look at these yummy colors by Pat Bravo. It makes me want to think up a quilt to use them in. These fabrics are a part of her new PURE ELEMENTS... line. Maybe Pat will send me some and I can dream up a quilt for them. :-) Read more about these fabrics on her blog.

Isn't it great to have so many wonderful people in the world to inspire us?

Giveaway coming once I reach 600 followers. Just 11 more to go. Woot!!!

Tea, Blocks & Fabric

John, aka, Quilt Dad was looking for volunteers to make him a quilt block for a quilt that he was looking to make larger. I raised my hand darn quick for this one. As you can see, John was looking for that wonky log cabin style. There is a name for this , but it escapes me right now. I throw in some Moda Cross Weave linen fabric for that wow factor. I just love this block. I hope you love it too John. It's going in the mail today!!

Quilt Dad Block

Look what I get to work with for our January Fresh Modern Bee block. It's some linen fabric and hand printed Organic cotton. I just discovered lien fabric for quilts and I'm in love. Not sure what I will come up with for my block yet as the style is wide open. Maybe I will do another wonky log cabin or wonky star. I'm into wonky right now.

Fresh Modern Bee - Janurary

Just a little gift I got from Ryan, aka, I'm Just a Guy Who Quilts. He saw the curtains I had made for my kitchen and sent me these great Tea Towels. Thanks. Don't look too close at the dirty oven.

Music Monday

Today's Music Monday is from one of my favorite artists. I have seen her in concert 5 times in the last twenty years and hope to get to see her when she comes to town in October. Janet Jackson is one of the most innovative artists when it comes to her videos, amazing dance routines and a sense of fun. Here is her video for All For You.....

Adding borders to A Quilt

Sometimes it not all about oneself, but others.

It's been a while since I have done a blog post and that is because I need an idea for a post. It seems it's getting harder and harder to come up with post. I'm not sure how other bloggers do it. Really I'm not. If you have any ideas that I might use for a blog post, leave them in the comments and we will see what becomes of them.

I sent out a request on Facebook and Twitter asking for ideas and that is where I got today's blog post. Ronda of Quilt Nut Creations wanted to know the proper way of putting border on a quilt. What a great idea. Thanks Ronda.

Why should I reinvent the wheel when all the work as been done for me by my good friend Matt Sparrow, aka Man Quilter. Check out his awesome site and tutorial on adding borders on a quilt. While you're there let him know that Charlie sent you.

They do say every blog post needs a picture, but I'm not so sure about that.

Stash Pact 11 Update

I have not yet bought any fabric, but then again it's only 16 days into the new year.

Check back tomorrow for Music Monday.

Stash Pact 11

I've got this bad habit of buying fabric that I don't really have a need for. Oh, but it's on sale and I might need it someday. There it sits on the shelf collecting dust. You think I would plan a quilt around what I have, but no, I buy new fabric.

I have online quilt shops send me their emails telling what is new and on sale. I see everything they have to offer and think I need that, but do I really? No, I want that. There is a difference. This year I have decided, with a group of people on Flicker, that I/we are going to cut back on fabric and try to use what I/we have. I have set some goals for myself and with the help of my readers maybe I can achieve them.

My Stash

My Stash

My fabric stash has gotten out of hand. So out of hand that I've had to make other storage areas just to hold the fabric I was buying. See first photo. I need to organize it and think up projects that I could use it with. I will save that for another day. Right now I feel I just have to show you the mass mess. No, I don;t have enough fabric to be on the TLC show Hoarders yet, but I am heading down that road.

  1. Stop buying fabric on an impulse. IE: sale fabrics. I'm really bad about this. I love FQS 50 off twitter specials.
  2. Look in my stash first for fabric. Oh how easy it is just to buy the fabric
  3. If I need fabric for work (Patchwork Squared) then I check with Ryan and we talk about it. There is always something else I can use. If not, then and only then, I buy it, but it's not for me it's for work. That would be o.k. maybe I could buy a little extra for that just in case moment and then stash the extra. NO NO NO I can't do that. Ryan you will need to watch me.
  4. Free/Gifts of fabrics are o.k. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth...I don't see this happening much as I don't enter a lot of giveaways. Yes, I have thought of ways around this, but a good friend would not let me do it.
  5. I buy most of my fabrics in FQ or 1/2 yards. Quilt backings, bindings and sashing purchases are allowed as long as they are to complete a current project or an old WIP.
  6. Try to finish up my WIP. I have a few, more than a few really, but I'm not very good at getting them done. I love to start something new get it half way done then move on to something else.
  7. Go through my stash and group like fabrics that I will never use and host a giveaway on my blog or sell them. You know the ones I'm talking about. We all have them. We see it at the quilt shop then a month later you see it again and ask yourself why did I buy this? Yeah, those are the ones.
  8. Every time I find myself at another online quilt shop and have a shopping cart of fabric that I don't need I set that money aside to later spend on a trip. Yes, there are shopping carts filled all over the internet with items that I have not bought. Trip to where you ask? Maybe Mount Rushmore area.
With the help of all my blog reader I can make this work. You can be my support group. I can't do it without you.

Music Monday

Today's music Monday post comes from one of our favorite bands from the '80's, The Cure. Just Like Heaven has received a little bump in popularity this month as a result of it's inclusion in Rock Band 3. It may get played a little more often than some of the other songs in the game.

enjoy,

Pinterest

Pinterest

I finally got my invite to Pinterest and I’ve been having so much fun exploring all of the beautiful pinboards that early users have created. It’s easy to create your own boards — when you come across something that strikes your fancy simply use the bookmarklet to “pin” it to your board.

View Charlie's Pins on Pinterest

What is Pinterest? Pinterest is a social catalog service. Think of it as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can post collections of things you love, and "follow" collections created by people with great taste.

Here’s the catch: it’s in beta right now, so you need an invite to join. I have six invitations left. Leave me a comment and maybe I will send you one.

Music Monday

This year for Christmas we got new music from Cher and we couldn't be happier. You Haven't Seen The Last of Me is from the movie Burlesque which was lots of fun to watch. Unfortunately I can't find an actual video, but here is the song....
