Birthdays

Someone is having a birthday today. Wonder who it could be?

Yes, I do get gypped.
  • Birthday presents are wrapped in Christmas paper.

  • "Go, grab one gift from under the tree for your birthday" my mother always said.

  • The one that pissed me off the most was the Birthday-Christmas card all-in-one. If looks could kill. Not my best game face moment.

Do you get the point that I don't like my birthday? I wish I could go back in time and change it, but if I could do that I would be one rich man. I'm not looking for pity. I just want you to know what a Christmas eve baby has to put up with.

I do love having birthdays and getting presents I'm not that much of a scrooge.

The best birthday I ever had was last year, for my birthday I got a car charger. The best part was, it was in July and it was in Birthday paper. Yes, I almost fainted right there on the spot. The card read " I know how much you hate your Birthday, so I thought I might make this one a little special for you." It's the little things in life that we always seems to remember and touch us the most. Yes, a tear may have welled up in my eye.

In honor of my Birthday I've decided in lieu of you giving me gifts, I'm going to give one lucky reader a Fandango layer cake by Kate Spain for Moda.

Leave a comment on this post to enter for a chance to win the Fandango layer cake. Only one entry per person, please. All duplicate entries will be deleted.

I will draw one winner using the Random Number Generator on Thursday, December 30th, 2010!

Style

Do you remember a time when my quilting style was this?

My stitch of fabric is based around it.

Now look at the where I am? I've done a 180.

This is the new Soul Blossoms collection by Amy. I'm still not a fan, but I'm forcing myself to use it. I'm thinking out side my comfort zone. I'm not into the big overpowering prints. When I do something with these I'm going to cut them into smaller pieces. I'm thinking around 2" in size. I am attracted to the colors of this collection not the prints. I will need to fussy cut my fabric to get the colors I'm going for, but I think it will be well worth my time. Don't go looking for me to start on this project anytime soon as my plate is very full, but I'm one that loves to plan quilts. I have lots of quilts that I have designed that I want to make, but I think I'm more in love with the designing part of quilting than I am in the getting in there and making it part. There is nothing wrong with that mind you. I know other people that are just the opposite.

Has your style changed since you started quilting? Are you attracted to the same color palette you once were? Leave me a comment and let me know. I find it amazing how we can start in one spot and end up in another. I never did dream I would be here, but I'm glad that I am.

No Prints Allowed!

As many of you know I am a proud member of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild and the fine people at Robert Kaufman gifted our guild 100 charm packs of Kaufman solids.

The guild has issued us a challenge: No Prints Allowed!

The rules are simple.
  • Each of the charm squares in your pack must be present in the quilt somewhere- even if it's only a tiny square on the back!
  • Add as much fabric as you want to make the quilt, as long as it is solid.
  • Cut up the charm squares any way that you wish.
  • Complete and bring to the March meeting.
I have my quilt all planned out. I'll give you a sneak peak a little closer to time.

Meet Pat Bravo and Giveaway!

Just who is Art Gallery Fabrics?  You might have seen these great fabrics at your local quilt shop or online and are wondering who is the master mind behind it all.  It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Pat Bravo of Art Gallery Fabrics.

Argentinian designer Pat Bravo started many years ago hand - painting her own fabrics and making beautiful art quilts inspired in artists non other than Kandinski and Klee. But she came a long way since her art quilting days, to become the designer and creative director of her own company, Art Gallery Fabrics. Her contemporary fabrics set apart from the rest not only for their excellent quality of 100% premium cotton but also for their classic sophistication yet modern freshness that appeal to traditional quilters as well as young sewers all over the world. But it doesn't stop there: she also designs sewing and quilting patterns and Grab n'Sew Kits, which include everything that's needed to make the project, including zippers, buttons, magnetic snaps, even color coordinated thread! To keep up with Pat's latest projects, visit her website www.patbravo.com

An affair with texture and color. Hand drawn florals, a modern take on feathers, and stunning art nouveau wallpapers are mixed with today’s organic trend. Explosive Shades of turquoise and orange with neutral grays give these prints an eclectic feel.

Playing Around

I was playing around yesterday before I went and saw Harry Potter in IMAX.
I am only going to say this, OMG!! Why do we have to wait another six months? I WANT PART 2 NOW!!!

This is a test block from scraps. Did not care what fabrics or colors. Turned out great and I love this color combo. Maybe I will display this in my quilt room.

I was cleaning my computer desk off and found this. It my Curve master.

I made these test blocks with it. Curve pieces and no pins. Had both of them done in less than a min. I'm liking this idea. Might have to do something more with it.

GIVEAWAY

The giveaway for a A chenille baby kit with $25 gift certificate or a $50 gift certificate sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop ends on Sunday, December 5th. There's still plenty of time to enter it HERE.

Until next time,
