Just How Much?

I Want To Know

I asked the question today on Facebook & Twitter: Do you sew more or less this time of the year?

Here are some of the answers that I have gotten:

Liz Boswell more! as long as its light out side for good natural light to sew by, I am sewing!

Denise Wallace I sew a lot all year long

Kim Quinter I don't do heat and humidity any more than I do ice and snow. LOL (Love this answer)

Ann Marie Miller Voigt more, too dang hot and humid outside, these 4-5 months of the year I do as many indoor acivities as possible.

Audra Majors Less but I hope to change that. (I hope you change that too)

Becky Magner Beatty I get a lot accomplished this time of year due to more natural light, it gets too hot outside and my regular tv programs are reruns!

Jeanne Logosz less at the machine but more on the road and outdoors... redwork and applique. (there is that H (hand) word again - lol)

Wanda Horn I make quilt tops all winter long then use my long-arm to quilt during the summer months. The reason for this is my quilter is in a room without heat, otherwise I would sew and quilt all year round. (sounds like a good reason to me)

Janet Zilverberg Kopecky Less! I haven't sewn for 2 months--calving season. I'm going nuts without my sewing fix.

Patti Price Less, the sunshine draws me outside! Dark & rainy today YAY! (Dark & rainy in KC meant tornadoes for us)

I myself quilt about the same no matter what time of the year it is. If I get a wild hair or the bug bits me then I will quilt. Could that be why I have so many WIP laying around?

Do you follow my fan page (or whatever Facebook is calling it these days)? You can find a link on the right hand side. You will also find Twitter there too. Who knows what I will ask next and you just might find yourself listed here on the blog.

It seems Kansas City was under the gun today for storms. We had to take cover at work for about 45 minutes. There were reports of 2 tornadoes that touched down in the area. They were brief and weak. The sun is out and shinning now. I hope the worst of it is over.

Until next time,

Taking Notice

Sink

The box did say the hardest part would be taking out the old faucet and they were right. Took all of 20 minutes to put in.

Have you ever noticed that when you get get ready to buy a new car you really don't see that many makes or models of it on the road, but as soon as you have bought it they pop up everywhere? I'm not sure if there has always been the same number out there and once we own it are more in tune to it or what. Mind you, I'm not saying it a bad thing at all. In fact I like seeing more and knowing that I am not alone out there in my decision.

The same thing goes for quilting too. Sometimes I like to think of a pattern and find fabric that will go with it and then others, I like to pick fabric and find just the right pattern to go with it. Either by dreaming it up or seeing something somewhere that leads me to just the right pattern. Then there are those times that you're just not really sure where the idea came from, it was just there for you. We are subjected to so many things in this world and everyone is trying to get us to buy/try their little piece of the great big pie in hopes that we will buy or try it. It's just the way this world works & will continue to work. Just something we need to live with.

There are times when you want to view an ad, but you need to watch another ad just so you can see the original ad that you wanted to see. Odd how that works. I hate it, but it's something that I am afraid we're going to have to live with.

Anyways, I might have gotten a little off topic. I posted this picture on my blog yesterday:

Design Wall

Not even sure you can tell what the overall picture is going to be. I'm not planning on using it for an upcoming quilt or anything like that. I just had a charm pack and some grunge fabric that I wanted to use together for a quick and easy quilt to place on my ever-barren blue walls. Then I'm taking a short break from working on this project and doing some blog reading. Seems like I am always behind on that & there are never enough hours in the day to read all the great blogs out there. When I see these great things: (yes, I am stealing them, but giving credit and links to the author)

Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter and her Moda bake Shop tutorial can be found by clicking on the picture.
There is even a kit of this great quilt.

I was listening to American Patchwork & Quilting radio hosted by Pat Sloan (the voice of quilting) & she was talking with a few quilt shop owners featured in the Spring/Summer issue of Quilt Sampler®.
I clicked on over to see the great shops that she had been talking abut when I ran into this.

Pave the Way. Shop owner Karen L. Gray designed Pave the Way for Quilt Sampler® Spring/Summer 2011 magazine. Kit with the magazine can be bought here. If you're ever in the North Carolina area stop in and check out her great shop or check out her blog.

As you can see two great quilts, each having their own style. Take a quilt pattern that you like and make it your own.

Lucky?

I've been super busy the last few days working on a top secret project that I can't show you. You will just have to wait until fall to see it. A funny thing did happen, I was quilting the project and only had two rows of stitching to go and I ran completely out of thread. Top and bottom at the same time. What are the odds? I should play the lottery. If only I was that lucky.

Spool

I'm working on some quick quilts that I can display on the walls of my quilt room.

A few sneak peek at what I'm doing.

Design Wall

I'm not 100% happy with the way this has turned out.
I'm going to have to come up with a Plan B for this one.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. I took this picture the other day with my iPhone. Would you look at all those yummy colors.

Candy
I'm thinking of making a quilt using these colors.

Star of the Show Quilt | Featured Today in SLC!

Ryan and I are so happy that we get to FINALLY share photos of the quilt we made for Spring Quilt Market 2011! We’ve spent the better part of 3 weeks fighting the urge to let it all out and spill the beans!

It all started in February of this year when I interviewed Kari Ramsay for a feature on Ryan Walsh Quilts. She and I emailed a few times after the interview and talked about her new line coming up called Daisy Dance. I mentioned that P2 would LOVE to make a quilt using her fabrics and that was about it.

A few months later, Kari contacted me again and asked if we’d still like to make a quilt for her. I politely replied, “YOU BET I WOULD!!” And it was at that time we were sworn to secrecy…

You see, this line was so secretive, that not even the reps had been given papers previewing it. It was all “your eyes only” and between me, her and Henry Glass. This is where I started getting REAL excited.

A few weeks later, Kari emailed me the images of her fabrics and the quilt designing began! Keep in mind, this was about 5 weeks before Quilt Market!! The clock was ticking!

At first glance, they immediately spoke to me. The colors were bright, the designs were a little retro and the subject matter was just plain fun! I knew I had to think up a quilt that would help these fabrics sing and I knew I had to try and get as many of them all on one surface. Enter the Kaleidoscope Ruler…

I had sent me a new ruler by Marti Michelle a few days prior to receiving the fabric images, when the subject of kaleido quilts came up in one of our weekly business Skype chats. Let me tell you, this ruler is KILLER! Makes everything so easy!

The fabrics were sent, the quilt was made and without any further stuff and fluff, here she is in all her glory: Star of the Show!

Designed by: Ryan Walsh & Charlie Scott for Patchwork Squared
Pieced by: Ryan Walsh
Quilted by: Lynda Turner of The Kilted Quilter
Fabric: Daisy Dance by Kari Ramsay for Henry Glass

Pattern to debut in mid June 2011. Around the same time as Kari’s fabrics become available to sell in quilt shops all over.

Let us know what you think…

Bookworm - Just Wing It

Angela sent Ryan some pictures of a quilt he put together for the latest Patchwork Squared pattern, named Bookworm. Didn't she do an awesome job with the quilting?

Bookworm - Just Wing It-2

It is a smaller version using 1 charm pack of Just Wing It! by Momo and various Kona solids. You can find the pattern here in issue 5 of Fat Quarterly!

Bookworm - Just Wing It- 1

I just love this quilt.

Overhaulin'

NO, were not going to talk about the TV show on TLC, but a blog and body overhalin'

I went & saw the pulmonary doctor yesterday & she reminded me again that I am so lucky to be here. She is also the same doctor that come & saw me in the hospital and would yell at me to get up out of bed & stop feeling sorry for myself. She said If I didn't start walking again I may never walk again. She said " I want you to get your ass out of bed and walk 3 times a day mister" The next day she would come see me again and ask if I had walked. It was rough I would tell her, but I did it or that I only made it twice. Her reply would be "I told you three times a day and I'm going to make the nurses walk you if you don't. At times I thought I was going to die. She said "good, my orders are working then". Damn, she was rough on me, but she would not give up.

Here I thought she was full of it, but after all she did know what she was talking about. She was very happy to see that I have recovered so quickly. Most don't recover this fast & and it takes months not weeks. She asked why I was off the oxygen? I told her I could not get in to see her and I felt I didn't need it any longer. She did a few tests to see if it was a good idea that I had taken myself off oxygen and I passed. She also sent me for an x-ray to see how well my lungs had cleared up. Her thought was they had, but I might have some scarring of the lungs, because I waited so long before seeing a doctor. She said more than likely I had pneumonia for two months before doing anything about it. She also said are you going to see a Dr. next time instead of letting things get so out of hand? Yes, I have leaned my lesson there.

Why did I let get things get so out of hand? Really it all comes down to not having a doctor. I never took the time to find one. That problem has now been solved thanks to pneumonia and a big stack of medial bills. I could have saved myself some money & time off work (which I am enjoying) if I had found a doctor and taken the time to go see. Me being me, thought I don't need a doctor because, for one I never get sick and two when I do it would go away in a few days. WRONG. I've learned getting old sucks and we need a doctor.

If I try and do too much at once I get tired, but that is going to be normal for while until my body gets used it. This has been a big change not only for me, but others around me. I am just thankful that there are doctors out there that care so much. Some would have given up on me because I never really cared to take the time to take care of myself.

Enough about me. Lets talk about the blog for a little bit. I was playing around on Facebook yesterday and noticed that my blog posts were not showing up in the notes like they once used to. Apparently, I never told Facebook or feedBurner (FeedBurner is a web feed management provider launched in 2004. FeedBurner provides custom RSS feeds and management tools to podcasters, and other web-based content publishers) that I had changed my web address. I thought it would just update it's self. No, it didn't. So yesterday I updated everything and now you should start to see posts again from me on Facebook, Google reader and other places.

If you had once signed up to have Qubee Quilts sent to your mailbox you will need to sign up again because of the change. There is a box on the right hand side of the blog page for you to enter your E-mail address and receive new blog post in your mail. No, Qubee Quilts will never share your e-mail with anyone.

I am working on a few quilting projects that I hope to show off in the next few days. I'm using fabric from my stash, but I am seeing that a lot of shops are having some great sales because they are making room for the new stuff coming from spring market and making it harder and harder for me not to buy.

I am going to work on a project today that has blues, greens, aqua gray and white in it. Quick easy project to hang on my wall. Only have a few weeks before I return to work so I had better get busy.

Until next time,

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there in blog land. We couldn't do it without you.

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever. ~Author Unknown

Spring four-patch

Don't you just love spring and all that it brings? I was thinking spring when I picked out these colors. I want to make a small quilt to hang on my barren walls. I'm going to have some diagonal yellow four-patch blocks then off set it with another block. I don't have any idea what block it is going to be yet. I just know the fabric I'm going to use.

Burgundy Buttons Stash

As some of you may know I had taken the stash pact11 challenge and that is to only use my stash to make quilt projects for the year of 2011. I have blogged about it here, but it seems I have fallen of that bandwagon. I bought some what I would call basic fabric at Burgundy Buttons when they were having a big sale and I just could not pass these great fabrics up. With the price of fabric going up you have to jump on the sales. I had been doing so good up till this point. Basic Gray Grunge is my weakness. I love that fabric. I have a few others thrown in for good measure, but most of the pile is Basic Gray.

Until next time,

Happy Rainy Wedneday
