This week has flown by.  Where does the time go?

There were 69 of you that voted to help up come up with a pattern to use for our custom quilt.  The voting was close there for a while, but then one of the pattern pulled out in font to become the clear winner and it is....

Quilting and Video Games

Thomas is sitting next to me playing Super Mario Brothers 3 as I write this post.  He likes to call that spending time together. :-)

I wanted to take a moment and show you a quilt that Thomas pulled off the quilting frame yesterday.  Not bad for his first paying job.

I like how bright and cheerful this quilt is.  Love the nested quilting circles.

Help Us Pick A Pattern

Qubee Quilts is trying to raise money for Aids Walk Kansas City and we are going to give away a custom made quilt that has been chosen by you, the readers.  More information may be found on this post. Today we are going to pick the pattern.  The poll will close on Sunday Funerary 12th at 6am.  Only one vote per person/IP address.  

Next Sunday we will pick our fabric for the winning pattern.

• More than 1 million people are living with HIV in the United State. Up to 25% are unaware of it - and may be causing more than half of new infections in the U.S.

• Approximately 56,000 new infections occur each year, a 40% increase from previous CDC statistics estimating 40,000 annually.

• Up to half of all new infections are not covered by insurance.

• The monthly cost of care is $2,100, of which about two-thirds is spent on medications. That equates to $25,200 a year.

• According to research conducted in 2006, an American diagnosed with the AIDS virus can expect to live for about 24 years at an average cost for treatment in excess of $600,000.

• In 2008, there were approximately 33.4 million people around the world living with HIV/AIDS, including 2.1 million children under age 15.

• 27% of new infections are among women, 73% among men. 80% of new infections in women are heterosexually transmitted.

While we have come so far with research, we still have a long way to go and much help for people living with AIDS and HIV and their families is still needed.  We appreciate any donation that you are able to make as any amount can make a difference.

Qubee Quilts has a goal of raising $1,000.  Can we do it? Yes, but not without your help.  Not only do we need you to donate but we need you to get a friend to donate.... It is a goal...not sure how realistic!  But with YOUR HELP...Our dream can come true!

Favorite Storage Ideas

Just a few of my favorite storage ideas taken from the web.  

Click on any of the pictures to be taken to be taken to the home of each pictures link.   

Use Soda straw dispensers to display ribbon.

Use spice racks in drawers to store buttons and other tiny notions.

Store fabric in an old dresser and painted to mach your decor.   

This looks simple enough to make.  

Binder Combs for bobbin storage - 3/8" or 1/2" works best.

Bakers twine in sugar dispenser.  

Tea Ball twine holders. 

I have got to get me some bakers twine and come up with a project that would use it.

Free Fabric Giveaway

Hope everyone's new year is starting out right.  Mine has been awesome thus far.

We have moved Qubee Quilts to a new studio location within my home and I have done a little destashing.

What fabric are we using?
 While we do not yet have a final fabric supply list as the designer's are still creating thier block, we will be using fabrics from Chemistry by Cosmo Cricket and coordinating Bella Solids.  Naturally you may use any fabric you like!

As the blocks are released, Burgundy Buttons will offer a block-specific fabric pack for purchase while supplies last.

Quilt for a Friend

Hope eveyone's Holiday was happy and merry.

It's been a busy last few weeks for me.  I've put in more hours than I even care to figure.  Just one more week and it will all be over and then we can get settled into a new year and a nice slow January.  Maybe I can get some of those quilting projects done that I've had to put off.

Below is a quilt I made some three years ago for a friend of ours in St. Louis.  It has just now gotten quilted and bound, thanks to Thomas.  This will make the third quilt that he has quilted on his longarm.  If you look real close you will see that he did different quilting for the border than the center.

The Desperate Housewife

Today I'm offering up a block tutorial as a guest blogger in QuiltJane's Desperate Housewife's Quilt project.  Jane asked me many months ago to join her in making a 8" quilt block to share with you.  When I signed up I told her I would would take sometime in December knowing that I would have 3 plus months to get this done, but now remember how hectic the holidays are working retail.  You would think I would have remembered this working 10 plus years in retail, but lo and behold I did not.  

I was trying to think what on earth I could make for Jane and I knew I wanted it to have a holiday theme.  I put my thinking cap on and remembered that Jane is from Australia, I thought they don't see many snowflakes there.  Off to work I went to make a quick and easy quilt block revolving around snowflakes.

I used my embroidery software to create the above cutwork design to make the pillow below.  You may download the 8" (200mm x 200mm) embroidery cutwork snowflake  here or 6" (150mm x150mm) here.  They are both in VP3 format.  If you require another format you will have to convert it yourself.
