String Qutiling - Giveaway
Here's your chance to use up all of those scraps you have been saving up over the years!
In quilting terms, "strings" are merely long and narrow fabric strips. This book will show you how much fun it can be to sew your strings together to create beautiful patterns for every room in your home. You can choose to cut your strings straight and neat, or go for the scrappy look and cut your strings at an angle. There are so many different ways the projects can turn out! Patterns are included for wall quilts, bed quilts, runners and more! Includes 9 exciting projects, 7 can be made by a beginner!
If you would like to add String Quilting Today to your own quilting library head on over to Clotilde and pick on up today. This book is also available as a PDF!
Connie Ewbank designed all the projects in the book. She is a former quilt shop owner and currently teaches quilting for local guilds. She also teaches local and regional meeting of the Embroiderers' Guild of America and the American Needlepoint Guild and is a Gulf States Quilting Association circuit teacher.
Nancy has sent me one copy of this awesome book to give away to you, my lucky readers. To enter just leave me a comment on this post. Please tell me about any string quilts you might have made in the past.
I will draw one lucky winner using the Random Number Generator and announce them here on Wednesday, September 14, 2011!

I am in the process of making my first string quilt. I am making it out of men's shirts. I have enough shirts to make a couple more so this book would be great for different pattern variations or the blocks.
ReplyDeleteNew quilter here who needs all the help she can get, would love to win this book! Thanks, and stay blessed!
ReplyDeleteI went to Amazon to see if they have a "take a look inside" feature and they did. It looks awesome! Thank you for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI've started a scrappy string quilt and a string Christmas tree skirt. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a lot of fun pieces done with thin strips and thought I might try it. I like the idea of using the method to make christmas ornies or rag animals too.
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteI made one mug rug - I loved making it but cringed a bit on the pieces I cut away to square it off - I am really a hoarder!! Would love to make more, though!
ReplyDeleteStrings remind me of log cabins. Surprisingly, I have not done even a block of log cabins in my fifteen odd years of quilting.

ReplyDeleteAnything that will help me with the piles of scraps would be a good thing! Thanks.

I haven't made any string quilts yet but am always willing to try something new. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI once took a short string quilt-as-you-go class and never ended up finishing the quilt. The finished blocks, though, were put to use as floor coverings and blankets for many, many dolls. Now that I'm back to quilting (the kids grew up and moved away), I should gather those blocks and make a quilt. I'm sure my daughter would love it for the memories alone.
ReplyDeleteI've tried a few string blocks...but nothing so bold as a whole finished piece...would love to win this book. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI have never made a string quilt, but would love to try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I have made a few string quilts mainly for charities. They are a great way to use up scraps and bring a feast of colours and patterns into your quilts. Thanks for the great giveaway. I would love to add that book to my quilt library.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy string quilting, looks like a great book!
ReplyDeleteI have never made a string quilt but would love to try. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've made one string quilt using general directions from blogs. Most the "strings" I cut from scraps, and used my mother's oldie goldie scraps. I tried quilt as you go (unsuccessfully). However, it was fun and would like to try another one using my lessons learned. It would be great to have actual directions from a book. Thanks for the chance. I already follow your blog, so this is my one comment.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a string quilt, I'm a newbie. I've only heard of them. Thanks for defining the term! ;)
ReplyDeleteI made a string block for someone else in a bee. It was not my fav...probably because I was worried about messing it up.
ReplyDeleteThe first quilt I ever made was a little brightly-colored diagonal block string quilt with black sashing. It's on my dresser now, where the cat sleeps.
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect for helping me de-stash. I not only have my own scraps, I hoard other quilters' unwanted scraps. Nothing is more fun than working with other people's scraps!
ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter and would love this book! thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have seen some awesome string quilts recently. I can't wait for the new quilt a long to start.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking book. I've admired string quilts for awhile now, especially those done on the diagonal. The picture you posted with the strings inside the circles is super cute too though. I haven't made any yet as I'm still a new quilter. I am just now in my first quilting class after learning online from all you awesome bloggers for the past year. I finally found a place nearby to take classes from that worked for me. I used to think, "Oh, well, they're just simple strings -- no challenge, there." The photos from this book appear to refute that statement. The controlled use of color -- Lord knows. I have enough scraps and fabrics to pull color families together -- opens up lots of new possibilities beyond 1930s-style scrappy designs. Look forward to reading this.
ReplyDeleteI have been saving all my left over strips from various quilts in a box. This book would give me an idea of what I could make with them. Thanks.
ReplyDeletelsandes@comcast.net
