String Qutiling - Giveaway


 Here's your chance to use up all of those scraps you have been saving up over the years!


In quilting terms, "strings" are merely long and narrow fabric strips. This book will show you how much fun it can be to sew your strings together to create beautiful patterns for every room in your home. You can choose to cut your strings straight and neat, or go for the scrappy look and cut your strings at an angle. There are so many different ways the projects can turn out! Patterns are included for wall quilts, bed quilts, runners and more! Includes 9 exciting projects, 7 can be made by a beginner!

Connie Ewbank designed all the projects in the book.  She is a former quilt shop owner and currently teaches quilting for local guilds.  She also teaches local and regional meeting of the Embroiderers' Guild of America and the American Needlepoint Guild and is a Gulf States Quilting Association circuit teacher.

    I am in the process of making my first string quilt. I am making it out of men's shirts. I have enough shirts to make a couple more so this book would be great for different pattern variations or the blocks.

    I have seen a lot of fun pieces done with thin strips and thought I might try it. I like the idea of using the method to make christmas ornies or rag animals too.

    I once took a short string quilt-as-you-go class and never ended up finishing the quilt. The finished blocks, though, were put to use as floor coverings and blankets for many, many dolls. Now that I'm back to quilting (the kids grew up and moved away), I should gather those blocks and make a quilt. I'm sure my daughter would love it for the memories alone.

    I've made one string quilt using general directions from blogs. Most the "strings" I cut from scraps, and used my mother's oldie goldie scraps. I tried quilt as you go (unsuccessfully). However, it was fun and would like to try another one using my lessons learned. It would be great to have actual directions from a book. Thanks for the chance.     The first quilt I ever made was a little brightly-colored diagonal block string quilt with black sashing. It's on my dresser now, where the cat sleeps.

    What a great looking book. I've admired string quilts for awhile now, especially those done on the diagonal. The picture you posted with the strings inside the circles is super cute too though. I haven't made any yet as I'm still a new quilter. I am just now in my first quilting class after learning online from all you awesome bloggers for the past year. I finally found a place nearby to take classes from that worked for me. I'd love to have this book to do a string quilt in the next year. Thank you for the chance to win.

    Looks great and I`m playing with string blocks,are called Almazuelas,(have a look in my blog if you can),is a typical spaniard block that looks like a log cabin and is handsewing.Amazing!!

    I love string quilts! I just finished a spiderweb quilt a few months ago that I absolutely love...blues and greens, not the colors I normally choose at all. I'd love to win, but one way or another this book will be added to my library, as is every other string quilt book I've ever seen.

    I used to think, "Oh, well, they're just simple strings -- no challenge, there." The photos from this book appear to refute that statement. The controlled use of color -- Lord knows. I have enough scraps and fabrics to pull color families together -- opens up lots of new possibilities beyond 1930s-style scrappy designs. Look forward to reading this.
